Features -- Yangon -- 2018.1.1

Far East Mobility won an international bid for an urban transport project in Yangon, with the project starting on 11 December 2017. The team made a first visit to Yangon in mid-December, and will carry out intensive further work up to September 2018 developing plans and designs for public transport priority, parking, pedestrian facility and traffic managemement improvements.

The Yangon project is funded by the Cities Development Initiative for Asia (CDIA) and is managed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), with the Yangon Region Government as the lead local counterpart. The project will focus on public transport priority measures for the Pyay Road corridor, and on traffic management, parking and pedestrian facility improvements in the central area as well as around transit stations.

The 2018 project follows earlier work from December 2016 to February 2017, when Far East Mobility carried out a preliminary scoping mission for the Asian Development Bank to assess the application of bus priority or BRT improvements in Yangon, as well as related improvements in areas such as traffic circulation, TOD, parking and pedestrian facilities.
